    My apologies, I have just pulled the thermostat out and it appears that the wire pictured comes from elsewhere!

    So it looks like I’ll easily be able to replace the thermostat!

    Hi kwatt,

    Many thanks for the reply with the link to the thermostat.

    It does seem strange that the old capillary tube is soldered in place. Perhaps the unit was repaired before (not very competently?). It’s been running on 10C for a while now and we had been wondering why our food was going off so quickly. It’s a good thing that we don’t eat meat!

    Here’s a photo of the end of the capillary tube attached to the condenser just in case you can offer any further advice on how to change the thermostat. I’d also be interest to know what the bronze-coloured part is, which joins the condenser to the capillary tube.
