Thanks kwatt, that helped. I checked the fridge fan and it did work but then stopped. I don’t know about upper cavity sensor, need to find that and don’t know where to look.

It appears that what I thought was a condenser is a compressor!! So, it’s the compressor that is REALLY BURNING HOT. Is this normal though? Am I panicking over nothing? Maybe there is actually nothing wrong with it at all. Freezer still freezes and fridge is still cold. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Thanks again Samurai. On the thermostat tested terminals 3 + 5 (both were brown wires) gave me a reading; and terminal 4 (black) with either 3 or 5 gives no reading. I checked the relay pins on the compressor and there is no reading at all in any combination.

thank you Samuri. There was no sound at all. I just took off the thermostat and tested it with my multimeter and the thermostat is working, so I imagine it must be the compressor or fan? The thing is, the fridge is in such good condition, just looks like new so I am loathe to write it off.

Thank you kwatt. I’ll try to test them and if they’re not working then I think I can find out on this site how to replace it/them. Cheers, Sue

Re: Hotpoint Ultima Frost Free Fridge/Freezer

Thanks for your advice kiddo66. I put the cover back on and am continuing to monitor the temperature. Let’s see what tomorrow brings.

Re: Hotpoint Ultima Frost Free Fridge/Freezer

The rear plastic cover from the inside of the freezer has some sponge which is protected by foil. The foil is torn and the sponge is soaked. I think, because ice built up behind it, it caused the foil to become damaged, torn.

The temp this morning is -4 degrees so something is working. The fan is not going round. Could it possibly only need a new fan and replacement foil or do you think some other damage has been done by the blocked drain?

I appreciate any help or advice anyone can give me please.

    Thanks

Thanks for that helo 75, I took the plastic cover off the rear inside of the freezer compartment and found the drain hole was clogged. I realise this may have caused the motor to overheat?? and cleared it. It defrosted, both doors open (it was already pretty defrosted) and there is no frosting. I have switched back on and the temperature is reducing but the fan is not yet working. I have kept the cover off so I can see what is going on. The temp is currently 1 degree so something is happening. I am really obliged to you for replying. Am off to bed now and will report in the morning. night night

The door seal has to be detached from the front panel

Thank you for that advice, I had managed to deduce that which was why I was asking how it could be done.

OK Martin, YOU don’t have to reply, surely this forum is available to people who choose to post or choose to reply or just choose to read. That IS a choice. Presumably you CHOSE to reply to me on this occasion. It seems weird (to me) that this is the first time you have chosen to reply to this posting and yet you seem grumpy about it.

There MAY be someone out there who has already attempted this operation as a DIYer and who can and WILL advise. I know how some experts try to keep things close to their chests and that is their prerogative, but not all are like that. I am only too pleased to give help to anyone, wherever I am able and whenever I can.

So… is there anyone out there OTHER than an expert in this field who would be kind enough to give me the information I need? If not then, yes … I am on my own … but even so, I will manage one way or another. I am at the point of no-return, sink or swim as they say so I have nothing to lose now.

I would prefer though, rather than advising the same “leave it to an expert”, that you did not reply. Please, no offense is intended, I am grateful for all the help and advice I have received so far, I just now want to get the job finished without upsetting anyone who does not chose to help.

    regards

yes, I am removing the whole tub but don’t know how to separate the tub from where the door is. This is the only area currently preventing removal of the tub. Thanks

I wonder if anyone could advise how to separate the front of the machine, ie door and rubber bellow, from the drum assembly? Gone so far as disconnecting everything except the shock absorbers and tub suspension springs but don’t know how to disconnect the tub from the front cabinet.

I know this is not the best way of doing it but I am removing the Drum because I cannot see how to get at the bolts holding the front outer drum to the back outer drum while it is still in the front half of the cabinet. This is the only way I personally can do it.

By taking the drum out I will be able to take the bearings out, inspect the shaft and order the parts I need to get this blighter back to work (we can but hope!). Thanks

Are you in the Exeter area?

No, ‘fraid I am in Hertfordshire, Jim. I do realise this is not going to be easy but if worse comes to worse, I will just have to take it down to the council tip, so nothing ventured nothing gained eh?. I will have a go tomorrow as it’s not in my house. Watch this space …….

There is play on the inner drum, it moves about half and inch. Looks like I will have to get my hands dirty. Is it best to lay it on its’ front and remove the drum that way? Thanks

Thanks again Jim. I saw that post earlier but I see it has been updated. Very interesting. Talk to you again soon.

Following your advice Jim, I decided to leave the door seal right where it was.

I have removed the rear half of the cabinet and disconnected the drainage pipes and found two socks and part of a pair of what looks like chewed up ladies knicks but no hardware in the drainage system as yet. I suppose the next thing is to remove the drum.

Now, should I remove the front half of the cabinet while the machine is standing upright? I started to do this and realised everything would collapse. So is the best thing to lay it on its’ front and take the drum right out because I can’t see how to get at all the nuts that hold both halves of the outer drum together with the front of the cabinet still in place, there seems to be about 15 nuts but cant count them right now as this machine is not in my house.

Yes, I know I am a stubborn moo, still want to have a go and would appreciate any advice from anyone who would be king enough to consider helping me. Thanks again.
