ParticipantJLWD 1609 drying woes, no error displayed; now fan noisy
Very interesting.
We have the same machine, not as new as the one above, and lightly used.
The drying performance has never been wonderful, but recently clothes were coming out warm but wet whatever options were set. The machine would spend 10 minutes at the start of the drying cycle gently rotating the drum one way and the other; 10 minutes with the fan running and heat on; and would then decide that time’s up.
Called Engs in; he found an error code, diagnosed that there was no cooling in effect and the overheat sensor was eventually calling a stop to the performance.
He replaced a sensor (and a small wiring loom) and cured the problem. But left a new issue – suddenly the fan is very, very noisy – I expect complaints from the neighbours any day soon. Sounds a bit like the whirry new tube trains on the Central Line – but LOUD. Much louder than a spin. The eng agreed it was too loud.
My disappointment is the amount of hassle we had with wet washloads to be dried by other means, and with diagnosing that the problem was with the machine, not the way it was being used. If the machine had bothered to actually show a fault code in the (user-visible) display a lot of that would have been avoided.
And it looks like another call-out or two to sort the fan – it gives me an uneasy feeling the the future may not be bright for this appliance.
I today noticed the fan running briefly during a wash, between the end of a spin and the start of the following rinse – you probably wouldn’t notice this at normal fan volume, so it might be a feature rather than an aberration … any observations would be appreciated.
