Thanks Martin. I know you are right but it bugs the hell out of me to throw something out that is otherwise still in excellent condition and not very old (I don’t think 4.5 yrs is old, I have had Candy, Hotpoint and Zanussi machines last longer, and with more work – kids still at home).
Regards, Tim

Hi, apologies for the delay in an update but I resorted to getting an engineer’s professional opinion (waited a week by which time I was away for a week hence delay).
Due to ‘domestic’ pressure I decided to get an engineer to look at the machine in the forlorn hope he might fix it while we were away, but with a stricy maximum on what I would pay.
The pro confimed that the fault is ‘down to earth’. He recommended a new motor but also said if that did not fix it, it may be the electronics(?!?) Unfortunately I was not there when the engineer tested the machine so I’m going by the briefest written report and what he said to my son.
As I’m now looking at a new machine anyway I have taken the motor apart and given it a clean as best I can, but does the above make sense re electronics?
BTW, I was quoted over £200 for the motor, plus fitting?

Well, new brushes fitted OK but still tripping the breaker when spinning.
Any other suggestions, apart from the skip?
Thanks,

Thanks for your response and advice Martin.
I have just tried the machine on a Spin Only and it went through the spin cycle OK. Would I be correct in suspecting I’ve just been lucky?
How easy is it to get at the brushes on these machines?
Thanks, Tim

Hi,
I’ve now had a chance to have a good look. The belt is fine and as tight as I think it should be, the tensioner seems to be OK. The noise I could hear before could have been the capacitor clicking?
I have removed the capacitor and notice that the end with the blade terminals on is at an angle to the body, in other words it is not fully in place, but cannot be pushed back into place either. Might have been like this from new.
Is there an easy way to check the capacitor? I have done a simple circuit test between the terminals but the needle does not move, but then again maybe that is to be expected as there was no power to it.
Thanks again,
TimIctoan

Hi Iadom,
Thanks for the reply. I’ll get a look at it later this morning. It is making a motorised noise (to my ears anyway) so obviously I need to look inside to assertain exactly what the problem is.
I will be back!
