ParticipantRe: Whirlpool 183 door handle replacement
OK, following Penguin The Expert I tried; problem is that indeed the screws wouldn’t catch so I must have destroyed the threads inside. Tried my Dad’s old trick with a bit of broken matchstick (failed again, story of my week) but then swapped the screws with the two holding the plate where the hook goes into the machine itself. While not as solid as it clearly should be it seemed to work, so will try the machine tomorrow and see… with stuff that doesn’t matter if it gets stuck inside until I have to call someone…
Thanks Penguin, thanks a thousand times over!

Thanks again for taking the time to reply, Penguin. What you describe is (I think!) what I’ve been trying; is it normal that I have to really force the spring to match the screw holes? I think I had it right once but it was clicking badly so I (foolishly) tried again and have failed ever since. Hook does go in the middle of the triangle with hook part facing the outside of the door, right?
God I feel useless. At this rate I’ll take all the thread out of the holes and have to buy a whole new machine, which needless to say I can’t afford right now.Idiot

Tried, tried again, kept trying, failed…
The coiled spring, plastic handle and clear plastic triangle are fitted together. But when I put it through the door, I can get no further. I assume the clip goes on the bar through the holes in the middle of the triangle, but does it clip into the machine to the left or right? And where on earth does the other spring go? Can see where the screws go but just can’t figure where the coils/flat parts fit. And am going mad.

Penguin, THANK YOU!!!!
Will try that tonight. Sorry for late response, been tied in meetings, but really, really appreciate your help.
Will let you know if I can do it…
