    Hi,
thanks for the reply and I appreciate your thinking that at a certain point if the problem isn’t obvious its easiest to just call an engineer.

you have suggested that the problem is probably a system fault but I have conflictioning advice suggesting that if there was a system fault very little would be happening in either compartment.

the fridge side seems fine and keeps its temperature, i realise that the freezer is having to cool down a lot further but still, from what other people have said if the problem was the compressor or gas it just wouldn’t be working properly at all.

the other thing is that the read out on the front doesn’t really seem to match the temperature inside the fridge, surely if the system was at fault the front display would just show that the real temperature inside?

to be convinced that this is a system fault I just need to have an idea of the process of what is going wrong and how its creating the temperature values I am seeing on the front display and what it is doing on the inside which is making it fail to get down to the temperature and not really give a correct reading of the temperature inside.

Re: SAMSUNG RS21DCSV1 freezer compartment doesn’t freeze

    Hi,
with help and tips from the great members on this forum I have managed to test the main components that fail on this type of freezer and have not found a problem.

I have tested the heaters looking for open circuits on the fridge and freezer compartments but bote give a reading to indicate they are closed and therfore ok.

I have tested the sensors in both compartments that are behind the blue plastic covers and these both seem to be fine and give a reading that varies with the temperature of the sensor.

I have tested the defrost sensor in both compartments and get a reading that varies with the temperature of the sensor, again I assume this is ok.

i have tested the o/load circuit and get a closed circuit on both sides of the fridge.

the fridge keeps cool although the freezers temperature is all over the place and rarely gets down to what it should be and I have been informed that if the refrigeration system was the problem I would be experiancing very little cooling or nothing at all so I am assuming thats not at fault

so with my limited knowledge all I can deduct is the control board is the problem.
Would this be a good guess?
is there anyway to check for sure without getting a new one?
If it is this and i neeed a new one, where do I get one?

    thanks

does pushing the power freezer and power cool buttons cause any sort of system reset. just that before I did this the freezers temperature was all over the place then after pushing the buttons it straight away cools down to the correct temperature and works fine for 5 or 6 hours

Re: SAMSUNG RS21DCSV1 freezer compartment doesn’t freeze

Looks like I need an engineer to come and have a look 🙁 . anybody able to suggest one near stockport/manchester postcode SK4 I have tried the repairs@ function but no luck.

From what I have read alot of engineers don’t know that much about these fridges and I don’t want to pay for someone to come out who is only going to guess like I am, what the problem is and charge me for the privilige. Should i be worried about this?

if it isn’t anything electrical what things could be possibly wrong. faulty compressor, gas leak….?

when you say there is no failure on memory, are you saying if one of the electrical items had a problem it is stored in memory until you push the top 2 buttons and then it diplays the dashes as a code to the fault. does this totaly rule out the electrical system from being the problem?

just that from the samsung posts I have read on this site my problem seems similar to those who have had a fault with the defrost function.

are there other engineer codes to test other parts of the fridge as I would assume that the refridgeratation system itself should be able to be tested for correct functioning?

    Hi,

so you were expecting to see some dashes that signify what has failed.

therefore you are suggesting that there is no problem with a thermal fuse, heater or fan, suggesting that the defrost cycle is not at fault.

when you say system fault, what could this cover?
I work with computers, electricals and mechanics regularly and if I told you there was a system fault it could indicate any one of a number of things wrong when refering to a computer. to me a fridge has to be way simpler but could the problems be as varied?

    thanks again for the help

Re: SAMSUNG RS21DCSV1 freezer compartment doesn’t freeze

when I did the above the freezer seems to cool down and reaches the temperature set on the display.
I set it at -24 and the display reads the freezer temperature is at -24. inside the freezer teh ice cube tray I put in is frozen and the freezer seem nice and cold.

then about 5 or 6 hours later the temperature reads the same but the ice cubes have defrosted again.

woudl I be right in thinking its the defrost functions that sat fault, possibly not turning off?

    thanks again

    Hi,
i have held down the power freeze and power cool buttons for about 6 seconds the display flashes and it beeps then the the screen goes completely blank for about 30 seconds before it beeps again and the screen goes back to normal.

I don’t see any dashes in the digital display

    is this bad 😥

    thanks for the help

    Hi,

    thanks for the info,
would like to try and check the simple things myself if possible to start with.
If I can check the obvious/simple things first and swap any small parts that could be causing the problem and then if thats no good I will have to revert to calling an engineer.

    thanks

Re: Samsung RS21DCNS not freezing/cooling properly

    HI,

I have a samsung RS21DCSV witha very similar problem. the fridge side seems fine but the freezer isn’t at the temperature diplayed and never cools down to the temperature wanted. ice cubes will freeze and unfreeze and this seems to have no reflection on the temperature diplayed.

from the previuos post it seems that this could be

    1) defrost heater
    2) A thermal fuse
    3) a sensor

all of which make sense to me. the thermal fuse and sensor should surely be an easy swap to see if they resolve the problem. if so what do they look like/where are they located and where do I get replacments?

as it is only the freezer with problems I assume each of the items that could be at fault are duplicated in both the fridge and freezer and that the components in question work fine in the fridge.

I have taken the pannels off at the back of the fridge and freezer compartments and there are wires at the back attached to the evapourators which I assume is where some of the gubbins is.

I am pretty hands on with engines through to electricals so would like to avoid the cost of calling out an engineer unless completely necessary, at least at first until I have tried the obvious things.

It seems from what I have read, the engineers seem to be a little unprepared to solve problems with these f/f and just swap things over to try and solve the problem with out knowing for sure that they are at fault. sorry if i have offended any samsung engineers out there who don’t work like this. but if possible I would preffer to change the simple things first myself to see if they fix the problem.

thanks in advance for any help suggestions

    J
