    So I wiped the stem clean, put the brushes back and put the motor back in. Is there anything else I could check before ordering a new programme board?

    Yes, both faces are clean and shiny. One shaft surface looks like it has been affected by heat. (1mm in total from the face).

    Will I have to take the motor off to do that? From what I can see, there seems to be a light covering of black dust over the copper segments. Could it just need a cleaning?
