The track side looks OK apart from carbon I’m the same area. I have no idea how to test transformer or relays I’m afraid so I guess I’m getting to end of the road.

Ok could the carbon be causing a short? What else could I look for?

No brainer then really. I suppose it’s just trying to work out if it could be anything goes simpler.

Balls, can’t understand why it would go after replacing brushes, just coincidence? Or could I have done something?

Hi Andy there is 240v at the terminals where the mains flex connects

Is there some sort of safety switch on the top panel that could of malfunctioned? Can’t see anything.
