    Re: DWF 417

Penguin, thanks for the link, although the phrase “testing by substitution” rings alarm bells over the time to carry out and the expense of the repair.

This exact problem is reported quite a number of times on this board but nobody has posted how they resolved the issue, which isn’t surprising given the nature of the forum. I’m still interested to hear whether the “expert view” is to repair or replace, given that a new board has been estimated at £130 + labour. If it is to repair then I guess it’s finding a local Whirlpool engineer, as Smeg have denied any knowledge of this machine.

    Thanks in advance.

Only Lamp 3 (Eco) flashes, no other lamps are illuminated. It seems to get caught in a continuous cyle of 3 beeps, churning and reset. If left, this will continue for hours without neither completing the cycle nor “tripping out”.

I have the exact same problem with this model, Ikea from Whirpool DWF 417 (Model No. 8545 856 15610). Programme starts and mid-way through, it beeps 3 times, churns, resets and continues this until turned off. The only light that flashes is the Eco light which flashes continuously throughout the programme.

From previous posts this machine has been identified as a SMEG. However calls to both Servevast and a local SMEG repairer (SE London / Bromley) reveal they have no knowledge of this model and hence not repairable by them.

Given there are a few posts on here about issues with this model, is it worth getting it repaired (assuming I find someone who will repair it – should I try a Whirlpool service engineer rather than SMEG?) or should I cut my losses and buy a replacement. Previous posts suggest it may require a new board (approx £130 + labour).
