Sorry, should have been clearer on that point 😳 . In my head, it’s only a standby function just because there’s no push switch – it’s just a setting at the top of the machine’s only dial.
The dial has about 14 points on it (I forget the exact number), which run around from off/standby, through the program cycle numbers, then spin, drain etc.
Trust me – I’m not in the habit of abusing appliances if I can avoid it!
Anyhow, it seems to be working as far as I can tell, just won’t stop blinking… If the power socket it runs from was accessible, I’d just switch it off there. Sadly, it’s hidden behind the machine itself. Does it sound like it could indicate something on its way out, or am I worrying too soon?
