Just to close the thread—the problem turned out to be a faulty pressure switch on the circulating pump. After changing it the dishwasher worked but did all sorts of strange things like filling and emptying at the same time. Eventually removed the low pressure fill switch and this had water in it also the tube. Also removed the flow sensor and checked the reed relay which was ok
Works fine now. I put the dishwasher on its side to remove the pressure switch, perhaps this filled the switch with water—perhaps I should have put it on its back instead?

There is a definite clunk as tthe fill stops then a pause then the wash cycle starts.

It stops about 2 mins into the wash cycle which starts after the fill cycle has stopped so I’d assumed it had completed the fill cycle and stages up to there?

Thanks for the info but it fills fine and I can make it pump out ok as well without showing any lights. The outlet pipe is clean and the circulating pump can be heard working before it fails. With the base removed the circulating pump is free and the heater element has continuity.
