Meant to add – I’d discounted the Miele machines as the 9kg ones were out of my budget, but wondering if I might be better looking at a smaller capacity Miele? We are a heavy use household so need a machine that can take a doing!

My only hesitation would be if it needed repaired – are parts expensive / am I restricted to a Miele engineer? In saying that, I do have a Miele dishwasher & tumble drier that have not caused any problems in 5yrs.

I can get an 8kg Miele for around £800 on John Lewis with a 5yr guarantee, so slightly over budget but would be ok with this if it is a workhorse. Alternatively there is the aforementioned 9kg Siemens for £600 (with £50 trade in) and a 5yr guarantee.

    Any thoughts?

Hmm…do I really want a 9kg machine then? My old one was 7kg and it felt that sometimes it wouldn’t take everything I was trying to wash, so quite often I would have to split the load into 2.

We are quite heavy users – the machine is on every day for at least 2, sometimes 3 loads. I’m wondering if I should perhaps go for a Siemens one which has a 5yr guarantee.

    Thanks for the advice!
