I would replace the pump and element but it now doesn’t seem to be filling with water correctly! It will only fill properly on the rinse cycle but not any of the other wash programs. The machine had probably not been used for 1 year before I tried it recently

Sometimes it drains and sometimes it doesn’t. Tonight the pump ran for 6 minutes before shutting off and putting up the error code. It didn’t drain anything during this time. I can gravity empty the drum using the waste pipe no problem so I assume that all the pipes are clear.

Also using the multimeter there appears to be earth leakage at the element.

Does this mean that I have a knackered element and pump? Time for scrap?!

I have read that a faulty heater can cause a prolonged drain cycle. But could this still be the case if it managed to heat the water and if the fault still occurred when the heater was disconnected?

    Thanks

Thanks for your reply, I have sat through a cycle and the problem occurred at the end of the drain cycle. The pump managed to completely empty the water but it could be heard continuing to run for around 5 minutes and would not continue on to the next step of the cycle. It then threw up the same error message? Why would the pump not stop running?
