Re: ice maker not working whirlpool s20b rsb21

Hi, I have the same problem. I am having problems with my Whirlpool American style fridge freezer Model Frbb2vaf20, has stopped producing ice. I pushed the lever on the ice depenser & the light came on (as it should) & it made a grinding noise. So I switched the dispenser off & looked into the ice bucket & it was full.So I emptyed the bucket & crusher compartment, the ice tray empty. So I thought I had resolved the prob, so I switched the ice dipenser on, but it stays on permanently with the light & grinding noise on constantly, but still not producing any ice in either the ice tray or bucket.

It’s not a problem with the freezer, as it is freezing ok.

It’s worth checking the condenser fan (underneath at the back) is clear as that may be blocked with dust and allowing the compressor to overheat. Just vac out all the dust.

Beyond that you’re into the above.

I have checked the compressor & it is really hot & the compressor fan isn’t coming on. There is no dust or fluff around the fan.
Can anyone tell me what to do ASAP?

Last night I twirled thecondensor fan around & it has started to work. This morning it is still going around & the compressor has cooled down & for the 1st time in months my ice pack at the bottom of the freezer has frozen solid. So maybe I will be able to put food back in my freezer, fingers crossed!!!!
Any more probs I will let you all know.Oh well, it was good while it lasted!!!

It has only lasted approx 20 hours & its back to the same original problems. So I have now ordered 4 new capacitors & hopefully this will cure it!!!

    I will keep you informed.

I had the same problem with the same model. I was advised to remove also the bottom rear panel to locate the condenser cooling fan. When located the compressor was too hot to touch & the fan wasn’t spinning, so I swirled it & it has kept on going & the compressor & the centre front panel between the doors has cooled. This has seemed to cure my freezing problems & for the 1st time in months my icepack at the bottom of the freezer has frozen solid.

    Freezer probe

    Compressor cooling fan (if fitted)

    Rear PCB

    Compressor

Sounds as if it’s short cycling for some reason and any of the above could be the potential problem.

Ice can still be produced at -12ËšC and therefore the icemaker may well still work but food would not be frozen correctly as, remember, water freezes at 0ËšC in theory.

The model number you’ve given I can’t find, I’d need the 12NC number off the rating plate to look at it any further or look up any parts.

    Thanks for your info.

The numbers off the plate you asked for are:

It won’t hold it’s temperature. The alarm goes off & It flashes — on the display & it then states -18. It does this prob every few hours. It doesn’t freeze anything, I have got a thermometer in the freezer & the highest it states is -12, but then the alarm goes off & flashing — again etc. However, it does produce the ice cubes, which I can not understand. I thought it may of been that the kitchen is too warm, so I have turned the radiator off & it still happens. THIS HAPPENS ABOUT 8 TIMES EVERY DAY. I have had this problem since we purchased it 6 months ago. Can anyone help? As I don’t want to be charged £80 service charge with Whirlpool.

Sorry I forgot to add this freezer is out of it’s warranty period ❗
