well if i don’t get a better offer by the time the new one arrives it could be a deal – if you’re serious? 😉
it still works, it’s running right now in the kitchen drying some sheets.

already did order a Zanussi yesterday dinnertime – looks like i got one thing right eh? 😀 and i took the option of an extended 5 yr parts/labour g/tee.
the old one? selling as spares/repair if anyone wants it. also, i took off the new capacitor and timer as they didn’t fix the problem, so are as new/boxed – again, if anyone here needs them cheapo. PM me if you prefer. 😉

it does turn freely, yes, i checked this already.
think it’s time for a new one – and it won’t be a damn hotpoint.

you know? i think the motor’s going down. been running it all evening, it’s stopped three times. first 2 times after 60 mins running. tried running it with the door open. when pressing the start button, the motor kind of groans – but doesn’t do anything. no amount of jiggling the timer to different posns does anything. let it cool for a couple of mins, and it will run again – for a few minutes. let it cool more and it will run for longer. there’s nothing holding the drum back. if it’s heat/time related, it feels more like something like the motor to me – a relay wouldn’t be affected like this would it? if it was a vibration/wear related problem connected to the relay, surely the breakdown would me more intermittant and it would restart immediately?

ok – if this relay board is the white coloured thingy with a plunger thing on it that the door pin acts on? then yes, i located it and it’s clipped to the rear of the front panel. i took it off, cleaned it and lubed it with wd40 and refitted it and tested it. is this the item people refer to? any more i can do to it or should it be replaced?

er…must be by the lock because i haven’t seen one up by the timer. i can pull it apart again tonight to check. well, actually, i don’t need a screwdriver any more, i just whistle and the screws take themselves out now. 😀

    oh dear, problem notresolved. 😥
it’s still stopping, it did it yesterday. stopped mid cycle, wouldn’t restart. fortunately not taking the stats out this time, but it did smell pretty hot.
tried the timer in different positions but nothing would make it restart. i left it a few minutes then tried it again and it ran ok for the rest of the 40 minute cycle. what is favourite now? timer of that relay/board whatsit?

Re: Hotpoint CTD00P not heating – RESOLVED! – thanks.

    result!
i did as i said – fitted the capacitor and ran it several times for 40 mins to 1 hour at a time, and it didn’t stop once. so i fitted the stat kit and it has been in pretty constant use since to clear up the backlog of damp washing, and it’s been fine.

so, big thanks to all who replied – you have saved me quite a few quid, and thanks to the guys in the parts dept for getting me the parts here extra quick. 😀

next thing will be the brushes in the washing machine – they only seem to last a year or so, and they will be due soon, i have read the section here about it already. 😉

    thanks again guys.

mmmm…..because the timer is quite dear, what i have decided to do is just buy a capacitor [and the ‘stat kit of course]. i’ll fit the capacitor first but omit the ‘stats. then test run it for a day/evening and see if it still stops. it can do that without risk of blowing the new stats, then, if all is well, i will fit the stats and get the heat back on. if it still does it, then i’ll have to get a timer and/or the relay.
    logical diagnostic process?
    order placed, fingers crossed. 🙂

Re: Hotpoint CTD00P not heating – and other issues.

morning guys, and thanks for answering so swiftly.
maybe i wasn’t too clear in my OP. the 2 times it wouldn’t go, the main motor didn’t hum or anything, nothing happened. the little motor down by the condenser ran, that was the hum. i checked the drum wasn’t overloaded or had a belt problem but all was ok. it starts on the button right now, and has only done the not start thing once. i think she said it stopped mid cycle once too. looking like the timer then?
it runs just as it always did, even doing the reverse rotation bit ok – just with no heat.
i’m possibly getting out of my depth here, and may have to call out a local guy who fixes washers/dryers…
