Any pointers on how to determine which pump to replace would be of immense help. I could tell the repairer to do his homework first and avoid problems. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for your reply. I do need to run the machines at night. I am coming to the conclusion that the problem is with the control electronics, or whatever it’s name is. Am I correct? What is the correct name please so I can order it. Unless something else is to blame. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes. It does work then. Two problems though.
1. I need to run the machine offpeak rates so awkward.
2. Once it starts, I can put he machine on to an external timer, and it does then come back on in the night. However, it has twice, when I go to it in the morning, come back, saying machine has not been started! Damned complexities of computer controls!martha1

Thanks for your suggestion. I did check the impeller thingy, as it says in the user guide. All seems clear. The machine does work, taking in water and expelling it on the programs it works on.
If I may add another observation: if, on a program it fails on, about 1 minute after starting it, I switch off the mains, then on again, it takes off! -
