    Cheers for your advice. Other stuff got in the way but the parts arrived yesterday and then the bearings collapsed. But it’s all done and dusted now, took about 6 hours over 2 evenings.

    If lumpiness indicates a damaged shaft I’ll get a spider as well. Puts the total cost of parts up to about £80. Any idea if a bearing kit comes with grease?

    The other bits were easy enough and I’ve had the car door apart to replace the lock and replaced the mid position valve on the central heating so I’ll just set aside plenty of time and make sure the washing is up to date before I start.

    At the moment it’s a choice of fixing it or buying a cheap replacement where I would worry about it lasting 3 years with the use it gets.

    Plus, while it’s apart I can give it a proper clean, no doubt it’s full of gunge.
