You struck a chord there – the last onewent to washing machine heaven because the drum spider broke.
Thanks, much appreciated. :salute:

Okay guys,
:waving:
Last posts on the wobbly spin :bounce: . I took your advice and contacted a couple of Independents. The first I’ve used before – ex Hoover training technician – been happy with him in the past. I told him the symptoms and he said he couldn’t do an economical repair – no quote given. He doesn’t sell washing machines, just services them. Second guy operates within ¾ mile of my house – and sells washing machines – working on the suggestion that someone may be splitting one so keeping the cost down. Impressed with the guy, turned up early morning so I could get off to work in time and didn’t charge for the visit. He pronounced it dead – the spider has gone , as if I needed to tell you. However, as he sells machines he gave me a recommendation BOSCH WAZ24364GB. His throw-away comment – which I didn’t pick up on at the time was ‘ The cheapest German made Bosch we stock ‘ I didn’t prompt the Bosch brand. On reflection ‘ German made Bosch’ from that I assume that Bosch also has machines made elsewhere ( as does everyone) and maybe they have quality issues – comments please. Oh, forgot to say £400 with 2 years warranty.Hell0-75 looked at your suggestion re the Comet Bosh , was out of stock when I first looked, but seems to be back now.
With regard to the WAZ2436GB – can’t seem to find a consistent specification between web-sites , and the Bosch UK doesn’t seem to list it – any comments please?.
I am also looking at the ISE machines – the local stockist is about 6 miles away, I’m going to drop by and see what he has to say. The better half thinks the Bosch is expensive enough (£500 with 5 years warranty) don’t here that very often :rolls: so she’ll get a shock with the ISE (her thoughts are if spending loads of cash get a Meile).
So hopefully you be able to give me some excellent steers, you’ve been most helpful and saved me a lot of time and effort. :salute: So this will most probably be my last post on the wobbly spin machine. Take care all, and I speak to you on the domestic Iron forum – going through a trauma with a Morphy Richards Steam Generator – 2 replacement and awaiting a repair of the last replacement – all in less than 2 years :bang: – get the impression when speaking to them they have a design fault and they’ve stopped the replacement policy and now repair only. Since it’s about to come to the end of its 2 year warranty maybe looking for another brand in the next 6 months.

First thanks for taking the time to reply to my query. 😀
From what I read on the tips page regarding stripping down a Hoover, it’s a real pain of a job and if its going to cost me a lot of time (and a few choice words 😡 ) and a hefty slug of cash if it’s the spider (would also do the bearing at the same time) maybe the end of the road has come for the machine. Although this pains me – I hate the waste of equipment, but maybe it’s the most cost effective option is to get rid ➡ .
The old girl wants me to get someone in to give a quote for the work – since the spider seems to be the most expense is it reasonable him/her be able to pronounce on it before stripping it down – don’t want any nasty surprises half way through the job 😯 .
With respect to a replacement, I looked through the other forum, and as usual with electrical goods lots of different pinions and experiences. Bosch seems to figure quite a lot and ISE is always mentioned. So its one of those. If others have a view point 💡 please feel free to advise or argue.
The first machine we had was an Ariston – and in the words of the advert it went on and on. I think in all it was 14 years -couple of visits from the man to stop it over filling and me putting a new belt on. Changed it when we moved to the new house. If I could find a machine as reliable and simple as that I’d be chuffed 😀 😀 😀 .
Thanks again chaps – much appreciated

On reflectionof my post above
Any idea how much to get fixed by a profesional (ballpark guess)
Any idea how much if I did it myself? and any links to the procedure. After all I can’t make things any worse, can I?

Thanks for the reply
Sounds like Rolf Harris with his wobble board at the moment
My worst fear confirmed the bearing
Your right I need to decide if to repair – 7 years old, but been pleased with it so far – quiet and relaible
Is there a forum that gives advice on a replacment machine –
My spec is
good reliable brand
not many programmes with half load capability
simpler the better – less room for failures
Any other attribute I should consider? Thanks – but feeling rather fed up at the moment
