ParticipantRe: AEG Tumbler Drum intermittent. no click=no start
Replacement motor run capacitor resistance tested across terminals one way and the other and confirmed different to suspect one. Replaced and worked fautlessly for full 1hr 25min cycle.
It surprised me that the run capacitor gave the symptoms I found.
Fingers crossed it lasts and hope this helps someone else. Thanks for assistance.mikedw

The above method to access engineering mode didn’t work on my dryer.
I tested again and made a video of the drum stopping and the difference between when it stops and doesnt start and when it stops, clicks and then restarts.

THanks for your reply Dave,
Can I access engineering mode somehow to find out?
The tumbler was drying towels, although I’d say not as many as it’s done before. I did take some out and it continued not starting, but maybe it didn’t cool enough.
I have taken out the capacitors to test, trying to rule them out.
the 4 microF start one tested OK with multimeter, building up in resistance when swapped over terminals. The 7 microF one just shows infinite resistance both ways so I’ve ordered a replacement as it’s under a tenner if only to rule it out. ( I did check here but not similar capacity / mounting).
I must say I’m not hopeful as I don’t see if it was the run capacitor why it would start when I used the start/stop button, but not mid cycle, but worth a shot.
The tumbler is less than 3 years old, but of course past its 2 year warranty.
I noticed quite a bit of black belt? residue see photo- is that normal.
Wanted to have a look at the PCB but need to figure out how to remove the cover – end tabs didnt do anything.Do most technicians have access to the engineering mode and the ability to really diagnose an issue like this.
