Thanks again Martin, yup, I remembered the omission re salt, taking the ability of a recommended dishwasher tablet also recommnded by the sticker in our Bosch at face value …silly me! ..it’s the 1st time it’s really ever run out for any length of time, so here’s hoping for simple fix.
question therefore is, why do the tablet manufacturers get away with the tablet being deemed a complete solution per wash (ie dosing), surely this is one of those big misnoemeurs & myths pertaining to the industry?
Whilst I do top up fluid every wash or 2 (habit) you ram the salt holder full & let it get on with it, I never realized how essential it was to continued operation til I browsed here, ..& probably too late.
So how do the tablet brands get away with it from a legal standpoint?
Sorry, I do ask questions because I want to understand & NOT make errors such as this, must take out a lot of machines if they are ever checked over…which I doubt, operator error based on advertising claims (Finish do buy a lot of advertising space) *cough*

Hmm, thanks, as a Greenie meself I thought (& bought) a machine that wouldn’t need skipping, or burying (we have a ruddy big fridge mountain tip near us, & if that isn’t a lesson in trying to keep things running I don’t know what is.
Having looked on another thread , same sort of diagnosis for a bosch, complete with a couple of pictures, i’s something i’d prefer to salvage rather than skip if able to get it on it’s back & past the sharp edges (presumably punched metal casings.. or worse than that)?
what sort of Losses to quality have come about in search of “greenwash crudentials”, cos longevity in a product is preferable to the whole process of gleaning material from the ground, smelting, refining shipping, production etc …it was a pretty good unit in it’s time (12 litres of water as I recall) & fairly low power consumption per cycle, as well as having hot & cold water hoses as I recall, ..nice for when you want to make use of your own solar heated water!
Side note: The lack of hot fill on many modern washing machines makes it darn difficult for anyone with solar water “sitting there in the H/W tank” which is why we ended up getting an LG a few years back.
Back to the dishwasher, wife (especially if it saves money we haven’t got) ..is prepared to hand-fill for a while, the fate of it being a possible cheese & meat smoker conversion if it is beyond salvation.
One thought, what’s the likelihood (I did read up on yet another thread) that the tablets we’ve relied on (as well as filling with salt & rinse aid) are not actually much good, we DID run out of salt a while ago & have been relying on the tablet content to take up the slack! …, would it help therefore (to try & pinpoint alternative possibities) to fill it & slam out a few empty cycles to purge any slime gathered in pipes which may have affected sensors? …& would those pipes tend to be visibly dirty if I removed the front fascia?
..hope to sort this out rather than replace, especially if it’s a sturdier machine than produced nowadays, after all 12 litres water & the energy used aren’t so far off the mark of the curent “norm” ared they? …& Martin has made me wary of the new 6 litre flushback Bosch, ..as has the price, especially if it throws the proverbial towel in after a few years!
So If I do a resistance check on the water unit? (please correct me as needed) ..then it should be displaying 25-30 as I understand?
lastly, (yeah, sorry) 😳 if it’s a pcb module dry joint pr an aged cap go (thinking it’s used daily, so many cycles under it’s belt) would that be a “in & out” simple replacement.
I must admit, the 6 litre new machine is appealing (we are also on a water meter) but if it’s a poor performer overall then what should I look for beyond marketing & performance speil these days?
Your time is greatly appreciated, as a bloke that is mourning the loss of his 12 year old trainers currently (burn out) …this is hitting me (a Scottish Jew) ..if we are to stereotype 😉 very hard indeed!

That’s not good to hear, i’ve just spent 5 minutes fixing up the fine mesh trap to flush & clean the machine through
I’m wondering how & why this affects the “eternal cycle” pending reset via clicking to another programme & links into the heater possibly being kaput!? (Thankyou for the advice Martin).
I’m guessing a heater unit is horrifically priced / wedged into the darkest recesses of the machine therefore not cost effective for joe-bloggs & his capable wife to tackle?
& whats doing the rounds as a sturdy durable machine for daily use these days?
