    Many thanks for the advice. It’s a nr brainer now really – one new tumble dryer coming up!

    No it’s a mechanical item which appears to work as follows: there is a small end cap (almost like the end cap on a cartridge fuse but much smaller) filled with a low melting point metal which presses against a bottom plate. A short plastic rod is inserted into the endcap and presses two contacts together at the top of the unit. When the unit overheats the low melting point metal melts and spills out of the end cap thereby relieving the pressure on the metal contacts and so breaking the circuit – irreversibly unfortunately.     Sorry iadom, PMs is an acronym lost on me. Can you elaborate please. BTW have checked CPC/ Maplin/ RS Components. No joy.

    Thanks. yes you’re right it is not a genuine spareable item (although with care it is removable) hence why I’ve had to buy a complete heater unit. Will have a browse on the web at Maplin/ RS/ CPC to see if I can find anything.
