If it is a house wiring problem I assume that means I need an electrician, or are there a few checks I can make first?

MCB is 32 Amp and the terminal block is fine no damage.

It is tripping the mcb, there was no RCD, assume house was wired before these were standard

You have guessed correct, we had a short circuit somewhere which tripped the Earth Leakage trip, since then the timer has never worked correctly and every time I reset the time, after a few hour it trips out and makes a wirring noise, tried all sorts of settings but nothig seems to work.
Therefore we never use the timer so thought if i can get inside I would disconect it, to save all that money!!

The numbers I can find are as follows:
E Nr U1442NOGB /10 FD8806

HBB-AP60-7

Any help or advice would be appreciated.
