Re: Hotpoint HVF344 display flashing on certain washes

My Hotpoint HVF-344 started behaving in the same way!

After extensive googling I found this video:

While the symptoms are not exactly the same I felt this was a solution worth exploring.

I unplugged the washing machine checked all the connections to the PCB, this did not solve the problem. After this I removed the control PCB at the back of the washing machine. The head of capacitor C17 was bulged, as described and shown in the video.

I ordered a replacement on eBay, although you could probably get the component from Maplin.

The capacitor I removed:
680 ?F 10V

I replaced this with:
680 ?F 25V

Replacing the C17 capacitor resolved the problem with my washing machine.

If you are comfortable soldering, this is an easy fix!
If you are not comfortable soldering, but you identify the capacitor as bulged and in need of replacement, I suggest you take the PCB to an electrical repair shop. This should be much cheaper than replacing the washing machine.
