Not quite sure why you would jump to that conclusion as the links are all to different retailers. My intention was just to show how the pricing compares, but I will now remove them and replace with costs. I apologise if I broke a forum rule I failed to take note of.

Re: Best choice of single oven 60cm electric cooker?

OK so here are the alternatives I have found so far, it is not an easy task finding a single cavity electric oven with ceramic hob:

    Gorenje EC67CLI ~ £620

    INDESIT I6VV2AW ~ £330

    Amica 608CE2TaW ~ £340

The Gorenje styling is a bit OTT and the Indesit looks like junk TBH. One possible plan is to go with a cheap one and hope it lasts for about 5 years when a new kitchen could be affordable with good quality built in ovens at just the right heights- is the Amica likely to last the distance?

    EDITED to remove links

Re: Where to look at Liebherr fridge freezers? (West Cornwal

Brilliant- I did call in and he did not have the exact models but was able to give a clear indication of size and show me other Liebherr fridges- his prices are within about £5 of anywhere on line and he is a local supplier who will take away our old appliance for nothing, so he will get our business (but not for a month or so, have to save up and hope our faltering Zanussi holds together for just a little bit longer).

He also supplies the Smeg cooker my OH is interested in, but that is approaching £1K and our current cooker still cooks so she is going to have to wait a good while for that one…

Have you tried Nigel at http://www.kitchenkitsw.com/ he’s in Truro? He’s a Liebherr approved stockist.

Thanks Don 😀 I had never heard of them, and Googling did not find them either, but they are just off my route home from work so I might drop by in an hour.

Re: Hotpoint RLA54P not chilling enough

    Thanks again Steve,

Looking at the Reevoo website reviews they are all from 2006-2007 so I guess ours is 7-8 years old.

    I found this advice:

“If the fridge cools a little on a fridge freezer and the freezer section seems okay then it can also be a sign that there is either a blockage or a shortage of gas. Please note that a gas shortage will not manifest itself magically after a few years unless there has been physical damage to the pipework.

Basically this is pretty much an experts area, but the causes are as follows in the main:

Shortage of gas on appliances under a year old
    Blockage or choke in pipework
    Changeover valve faulty
Compressor pumping weak (highly likely on older machines 8 years or more old)”

    On this page: http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/help/fix- … ezers.html

So I think it really has done its time and I should take it to the recycling centre anyway.

To be fair it has been reliable until now, the only issue being the quality of the plastics, e.g. the two smaller salad drawers which both cracked at the front when being lifted up with modest loads in, and the big bottle shelf in the door which finally gave way last year and caused a milk tidal wave across the kitchen floor 😯

Re: Hotpoint RLA54P not chilling enough

Hi Steve, thanks for getting back to me on this one.

I know nothing :rolls: but it does not have any obvious vent where a fan would blow through and I have never heard a fan. It normally has a slight trace of frost and frozen droplets on the back wall, then sporadically these will melt and drain away through the drain hole in the back of the cabinet, leading out to an evaporation tray on the top of the compressor. Once or twice the drain hole got blocked and we got a puddle on the floor and inside the bottom of the cabinet. Maunual defrosting is never necessary.

It is a larder only fridge, no freezer, not even an ice box. We unplugged it for a couple of days the other week and this has made no difference to its performance as far as I can tell.

I think it is around 6-8 years old so maybe it has just had its time…

Re: Independent inspection of Wine Fridge wanted

One thought- have you contacted the manufacturer as they might help with all or some of the costs if it is only just out of warranty.

I have had a good will repair of a BMW MINI after the three year warranty where we just paid for an hours labour and the very expensive part, a steering rack, was FOC. Also had an Iiyama computer lcd monitor die at two years old and when i phoned the manufacturer for advice they said it was a known fault and sent me a free replacement without me even asking- I was astonished.

So it is a complete no-no to transport an upright fridge, freezer or fridge freezer horizontally; it would not help to leave it standing upright for 24hrs before switching on, after being transported laid flat?

Re: What to do with failing Hotpoint and Zanussi?

Apologies for the long post above, the Zanussi is a ZRT318W.

Really what I want to know is:

A: whether the fault with the Hotpoint RLA54P is the thermostat or could it be something else, e.g. failing compressor?

B: how long has the Zanussi got or should we get rid now?

Re: Would you buy a Hisense Fridge Freezer?

Since my original message I have seen quite a lot of poor reviews and complaints re Hisense fridges/freezers on Australian forums, where they have appear to have had a longer market presence. There are both issues of poor build quality and customer service when things go wrong. They may have improved since the last of these posts, circa 2012, or they may have cut and run from that market and come here to make a quick buck in the same fashion- I don’t know but it would seem silly to take the risk with my hard earned.

Meanwhile our current equipment may be having a stay of execution as info on here suggests some of it at least may be repairable- I will pots on the fridge & freezer forum.

Though we have seen a discounted Liebherr CUPSL2721 that might work for us.

OK so after a consult with SWMBO we are looking at discounted ‘Hoover’ which I realise is a badge engineered Candy, but has the large capacity fridge & modest freezer combo etc. that we want at a reasonable price: http://ao.com/product/HSC185WE-Hoover-F … 29403.aspx We would look at the quality German options but don’t really have the readies at the moment and anyway when the teenage kids leave home we will want a much smaller one- which I think will be the time to go for the Miele or Liebherr.

Re: Miele fridge/freezer problems with fridge freezing and f

That is horrendous considering the cost of one 😯 I thought Miele stuff was supposed to last decades thus justifying the price, not <3 years 👿

I need a new fridge freezer of about this size and to be honest I am now utterly confused about what to buy.

Re: Would you buy a Hisense Fridge Freezer?

Thanks guys- I think I will steer clear just now, the Haier washing machine was a bit of a learning experience, though it was arguably better than the the far more expensive Zanussi that preceded it and lasted about three years, which was a shock when the Zanussi before that had done about 15 with just a new set of motor brushes. Now have a Miele washing machine- hopefully that was worth the £670.
