ParticipantRe: 10-y-o Bosch SRS5602GB-02 goes bang and dies
Update.
So I ended up taking the left side panel off to have a closer look at the supressor. In fact I managed to get it off from the side (I couldn’t prise the unit out from the back). Unfortunately it’s clean and intact. It’s this part here:

So, given it’s age, the dishwasher looks like a scrapper.
Thanks for your help.

That’s good to know. Thanks.
Can you tell me which bit in the attached photo I need to prise out?
Are there any screws that I need to unscrew first?
Do I need to disconnect the mains cable?

Thanks for the responses. I’ve just detached the machine to have a good look at it.
Can anyone provide a few clues on how to get the panels off please? I haven’t got a Torx but I’ll get one tomorrow.
I’ve repaired a tumble-dryer before but this seems quite a bit more complicated.
Many thanks again.

Hi Paul, thanks for the quick response.
I’ve just had a look at the rear of the machine and I can’t see any black shadows like you describe.
I’ve been reading back through the forum and it suggests that the machine should still function even after this has blown (although it will probably cut out again).
So I’ve changed the fuse in the mains plug but the machine still won’t turn on.
Is there anything else that it is likely to be?

ParticipantRe: bosch dw sgs56e02gb/35 banging noise when filling
This sounds very similar to what happened to mine.
The noise mine made was alarming – like really bad water hammer – I actually thought it was going to fracture a pipe it was so bad. I think what is actually causing it is the fill valve switching on and off very quickly.
Good news is that I think I can help. I actually got a repair guy out to fix mine and the problem was that one of the pipes had become almost totally blocked with fat over a period of about 8 years since we’d bought it. We’d only really used the eco setting (50 degrees) during this time.
The guy basically took the side panels off and removed a 12″ tube that was thick with fat with only a channel about the width of a pencil running through it. The machine was struggling to fill through this blocked pipe and the machine ‘logic’ is saying the pipe is blocked and thus turning off the water but the reservoir is saying ‘not full’ and turning it back on again. This goes on until there is enough water in the machine to start a cycle.
If you look inside once it’s ‘full’ you may see that there isn’t much water in there even then – this was the case with mine. The dishes weren’t getting properly cleaned because there wasn’t enough water sloshing around owning to the filling problems.
So, if you take the sides off you’ll probably see the blocked pipe. Take this off and give it a clean through and it should do the trick.
We were advised to use a hotter cycle more often and also to run it empty with one of those ‘cleansing’ things in it every couple of weeks to keep all the pipes clear.
It hasn’t happened to us again since but I suspect it builds up over a good few years like I said it was about 8 years for us.
My model is a Bosch SRS 5602GB/02 I think (that’s what’s on the plate on the door at least). It’s a slimline one.
Hope this helps. Let us know how you get on.

ParticipantThank-you, thank-you, thank-you
So I ordered the part from this site (£20.50) and it took two days to arrive.
I followed the instructions from Jim (plus the tip from the earlier thread about lying it face down to avoid loosing screws and also only taking one out completely) and it took about 15 minutes to swap it over.
A bit tricky extracting the relay out into the open but once out swapped the cables like for like with the new one, put it back together and it works! My first ever appliance repair and no cuts or other injuries.
My wife is seriously impressed!
Thanks to everyone who helped out.

Thanks Jim. I’ll order up the part and give it a go.
