Re: Second hand oven, earth in the cable is black – confused

    Hi guys,
Thanks for the replies and sorry for me being so slow to return, both me and my gf lost our jobs recently so everything has went on hold…

The cable was indeed oxidized, I removed the fitted cable and fitted an appropriate to test. Although not a white goods engineer I do work as an engineer in broadcast television and my father was also an engineer in comms and electrics so have a good basis and thankfully not a complete idiot, well almost.

Upon opening I found that the connections had indeed been disabled, thankfully whoever had disconnected these had been good enough to mark the colours on the cabinet at the appropriate places and had left a handwritten wiring diagram and placement, obviously someone switched on.

Using a multimeter I then proceed to do an earth continuity on the front metal cabinet and switching – all good, checked that all other connections were also good and no crossover.

Ducked and cover – then switched on, and it all so far seems to work. All lights coming on, temp lights on, display on, switches operating as they should and fans spinning on. Haven’t let it come up to temp yet as it is still to be fitted into cab.

Certainly if it wasn’t for the lack of money I wouldn’t be buying like this, but completely broke and jobless at the mo so needs must.

Hopefully will fit later this week and hopefully the only problem is that of a cosmetic nature, the control panel and switches have got a fair few scratches on them as does the door panel, I’m not so bothered about the door (only if it was a cheap replacement) however the control panel and switches are pretty bad and would prefer to replace could anyone point me in the right direction to get these and at the right price.

Also in the terms of safety I will still have a pact test completed on this what does it cover, anymore than what I have already done ?

    Cheers (again)
    Al.

Thanks mate, thought that might be the response.

    Cheers!
