    do these selector switches commonly give up on one mode or generally give up completely ?

    Yes a multimeter, I understand you can not encourage live testing on circuits .
    im a audio/visual engineer so competent to test on live mains/low voltage circuits .

    Hi thanks for getting back to me .

    I’ve just done a continuity test on the old element and that does infact test ok .
