Yes a multimeter, I understand you can not encourage live testing on circuits .
im a audio/visual engineer so competent to test on live mains/low voltage circuits .

Hi thanks for getting back to me .
yes I have a voltage tester , I didn’t test before hand as the person I got the cooker from gave me money off to get a new element so just ordered and replaced today .
I’ve just done a continuity test on the old element and that does infact test ok .
