I’m surprised program 2 isn’t some intermediate temperature. I guess 2 would be the one for normal washes then, 1 for intensive and 3 for things that aren’t really very dirty (some sort of eco mode?).

I think a lot of the problem is inadequate rinsing, which is perhaps a point I didn’t make clearly.

On the non-delicate programs it uses as little rinse water as washing water, which can’t be enough to adequately rinse the clothes.
