ParticipantRe: Hoover WDM1301 drum bearings
Hi
Update to the work carried out on a 3 year old Hoover WDM 1301.
❗ Original problem: worm motor brushes
😥 Causes: unstable rinse/spin ups, controller ramps up motor output due to poor motor via tacho feedback.
Results: spins ups instead of rinse spins – with a water logged load! machine takes up a “Strickly come dancing” pose.Problem sorted out by replacing brushes? 😉 NO!, 😯 WM used in a remote utility room, so used over a few days with the problem.
👿 No spin up, intermitent connection/break to tacho coil.
😈 Drum bearing seal failure, bearings following shortley after.
🙄 Heater failure – failing bearings allows drum to collide with element.:eeek: Now an aling pump, can’t associate it with its’ original brush failure, yet!
P.S
💡 bearing replacement, complete tub out, split tub housing, persuade drum shaft from rear bearing without damaging shaft, (lump hammer/steel ring/wood block to protect shaft end – and hit! HARD) Bearings only removed by ‘dismantling them’ using a cold chisel. Avoid contact with bearing housing. Tip, use old bearing housings to seat replacements in place, careful not to damage bearing race shield.
Throughly clean bearing housing before offering in the new bearing/seal.:lesson: Very expensive set of brushes!!!!!
Thaaats all fffolks ………………

ParticipantRe: Hoover WDM1300 Low Spin routine
Thanks for the feedback Penguin45, I’ve aleady carried out the basics, the odd 20p coin, pen top etc. I think the problem may be with the brushes, likely that the slow spin cycle is not reaching correct speed, feedback from tacho then increases power to the motor, hence the sudden increase up to a fast spin. Looked at the brushes, and they are down, have ordered a set of genuine replacements. Like you said ‘down to basics’!
ThanksP.s If I knew the ATM codes myself, highly unlikely I’d be crouching down on a floor fixing a Hoover!!!! If I do stumble across them, I’ll send you a copy when I’m safely in Brazil.
