to take the drum out of one of those is a big big pain ( thats the polite version )

done dozens of cap changes it gets easier over time its the first ones you struggle with as you learn ways to make it easier

Haha thanks Dave, considering I push a mouse around a desk all day for a living I’ll swerve trying to do that!

I’m assuming taking the drum out to get better access is an ar$e of a job?

front panel and the front frame / bearing unit off

as you remove front panel remove wires from door switch and dont forget to plug it back on ( been there lol )

also as you remove frame take careful note of the way the harness runs over the frame arms. if you get the wrong the wires could catch the drum and go bang

then you have to unplug wires with one hand from the cap and some of them are tight and have to be teased off with a small screw driver

cap has a nut on it normally 13mm

you need to undo this and dont drop nut or the washer and if you do make sure you either know where its dropped or find it

a loop of string can help hold the new cap in place to get the nut and washer on

then make sure you get wires on correct terminals

Thanks Dave, sounds like alot of swearing will be done haha

I’ve ordered the part, also just had the top off, turned it on, waited for the buzz/hum and given the drum a push and it’s spinning fine which according to the videos online seem to suggest it’s defo the capacitor.

As for fitting it you seemed to suggest it was fiddly, one of the videos online shows fairly easy access to a similar model, but it wasn’t the condensor version. Looking at it theres no way in from the back or sides, and the condensor mechanism seems to take up the entire base of the unit. Am I right in assuming its something along the lines of:

    Top off
    Control panel off
    Door off
    Front panel off

And then slide a hand in between the drum and plastic condenser base to try and access it?

Thanks Dave, I think I’ll buy one just in case, they aren’t expensive, sounds like I’m gonna have fun changing it if it is this! Looking at the pic of it, it;s just 2 connectors and a screw thread presumably to mount it?

switch on and press start. as you do so give the drum a push

if it revolves let it run for a minute and open door and check for heat

if you have heat then you have a failed capacitor on the motor. most of the time its 7uF but would need the model and serial to check

    https://shop.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/washing-machine-tumble-dryer-dishwasher-7uf-capacitor
this is the 7uf but on hoover its real fun to get and fit

the whole fron of the drier has to com off and your working in a space only one hand can access

    Dave

Thanks Dave I’ll have a look asap! The model is HL C8LG-80
