    Re: Bosch KGV3120GB/01 Switching Problems

Going by the comments of pto (the ones I could read, because I don’t know what he said that made the moderator delete it!) I can either buy an expensive kit which basically adds another temperature controlled swtich, or dig into the foam to get to the original thermistor.

I think that both of these options leaves the unit in a worse state than the original condition, and in addition to the fact that I am going to have to work it out as I go along, I have decided to cut my losses and buy a new fridge/freezer.

Btw, did the moderator delete pto’s original message because he gave instructions on how to get to the thermistor? I can understand that there may be legal issues here if instructions are given, and someone gets electrocuted as a result, but it doesn’t help me trying to get information.

Oddly, I can only boot the unit back into life by using the mains switch on the wall, it doesn’t work using the on/off switch on the front panel, and only when the fridge compartment is virtually back at room temperature – why would that be?

On a more general note (minor rant coming up) what is the point of the manufacturers claiming to be all environmentally friendly by producing ‘A Rating’ machines etc, but in such a manner that if something simple fails you might have to throw it into the nearest landfill because you can’t easily change a 99p part. Ease of maintenance should be part of the specifications so the each unit can run for a few years longer which has to be a ‘green’ option – end of rant.

Thanks to those that tried to help.

    Thanks for the reply.
There are no service engineers listed for my post code.

Where is the thermistor located? Can I access it by unscrewing the 2 screws situated just above the top of the fridge door? I will definately switch off the power before going in.

The Bosch website gives an exploded view, but doesn’t go into enough detail. Also, I haven’t come across any thermistors when looking at Spare parts sites.
