Re: Groaning noise during slow drum rotation after re-assemb

Hi, sorry I was away for a bit.

I ran the machine on a spin with the belt off an can neither see nor feel any play whatsoever in the part that rotates the belt.

When I disconnected the motor I padded the underneath with towels so it didn’t drop or damage, I’d be surprised if I’ve done anything to it.

take the front off and the belt. with 1 hand push on the heater terminals to force the end of the heater up and with the other turn the drum slowly

the sound the noise is making does have a quick pattern to it. if its not the heater then I would look at the motor and see if there is any bearing play

Can’t thank contributors enough, your generosity with time is much appreciated.

Touched the heating element to the drum and it sounds like the end of the world, definitely not that. Re-fitted it anyway, seems fine, and zip-tied some parts that may have been straying. I’ve had my ear all over the place and can’t pin down where the noise comes from.

    Hand turning results:
    – Empty, Belt on: quiet “wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee noise.”
    – Empty, belt off, dead silence.
    – Heavy load, belt on, “wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee”.

So it seems that grinding only occurs by *powered* motor, since it happens at very slow speeds and I can’t trigger it by hand.

also does it make the noise if you remove the belt and turn by hand ?

    Hi, thanks for replying!

I’ve made some progress: the noise only happens when loaded and running… even then, not always. Absolutely fine when empty, even running a cycle. Tried hand-moving a drum full of still-wet heavy clothing, no noise then either.

It did take me a while to get the element back in. I could try re-mounting it but I was pretty sure I got it because it felt solid.
