This won’t help the original requestor as we’re now 2 years further on but it may help someone else who finds this forum via a Google search.

I have a John Lewis JLFFW 1807 fridge freezer which is the same model with a different badge and suffered the same symptoms. The cause of the problem was a faulty thermal cutout. This prevented the heater cutting in to defrost the ice. Once diagnosed the part itself wasn’t too expensive but still involved a labour charge.
