ParticipantRe: NEB ceramic hob cutting out
Just seems strange then that I have the instruction book from the hob and it definitely says in the back 1 year labour, 5 years parts (just as others have said.) Trading standards agree that responsibility lies with B&Q and they should honour it.
Definitely not a ventilation problem as I had it installed in a stainless steel ‘range’ contraption which gives full ventilation and the problem plate is actually the furthest one away from the PCB.
Further inspection revealed that the big black box on the PCB was hissing and crackling when the hob was turned on which could be clearly heard before the thing finally died.
Managed to get a whirlpool s/steel hob for £40 in a clearance sale so that will do me until I can save up my pennies for a new ceramic hob – definitely not Nardi and definitely not from B&Q!pslaidler

Called expert appliance care re: the part and got hold of a lovely lady who was most helpful. I was told that as long as I had the guarantee and receipt then I should not be charged for the part. B&Q head office insist that guarantee is only for 1 year and that they will not pay for the part.
Decided to pay a visit to the store as I just had visions of the part being charged to my card along with the call out. I was offered a 20{e5d1b7155a01ef1f3b9c9968eaba33524ee81600d00d4be2b4d93ac2e58cec2d} discount on any new hob – which I thought fair as I was staff at the time I bought the Rimini and got a discount on that anyway. Have decided to buy a bog standard stainless steel electric hob – which now will not cost me any more than the callout charge would have and I will keep an eye out for a damaged NEB 15 that I can eventually poach the circuit board from.
Shame to lose my sleek ceramic hob but the hassle just isn’t worth it.
Anybody else get any joy from the B&Q 5 year parts guarantee?pslaidler
ParticipantThanks Dave,
At that price I think I would too!
I am going to continue to battle with B&Q and hopefully they will cough up for the part.
Otherwise it may be a trip to trading standards.
Many thanks for your help,
I really appreciate it.

ParticipantThanks Dave,
That would be great.
Still in a battle with B&Q over my 5 year parts guarantee not being honoured so I am expecting to have to do it myself anyway.pslaidler

Swapped the two large elements over last night but the problem persisted on the front left ring so obviously the element is not to blame after all.
Now I need to source a replacement control panel board as it is easily replaced with lug connections.
Thanks for your help Dave.

ParticipantThanks Dave,
Having taken the element out and had a look at it I can’t see how it would affect the whole unit either – there are only the power connectors attached to it and no other wiring although there do appear to be two positions to the switch. As the probe expands it triggers the first switch – which I assume is to control its heat – but if it continues to expand there is a further switch which I assume is the safety cut out.
It just seems strange that this ring is the only one that triggers the whole hob to shut down. The other 3 can be used without problem. I have checked all connections and they are fine. If the oven is used then it triggers the shut down once it has heated up so i assumed the heat from below was affecting the faulty probe.
Probably too many assumptions! I guess I need to get it seen to professionally.
