When you say the thermistor needs to be checked, do you mean just clean all the fluff from it or test it eletrically? I am an electronic engineer (radio not washing machines 😉 ) so I have a multi meter, but I would imagine it would need testing at certain temperatures which would be difficult.

I will take the back off tomorrow night and clear out the condenser and the inlet with the thermistor.
