    I have now stripped the motor down.The brushes were I believe good pattern parts and neither appeared stuck in the holder.I cant see any evidence of overheating in the motor,it spins easily by hand and the brushes aren`t chipped or damaged.The copper wire from the brush carbon to the brass connector is sound .The commutator segments were a little dirty but no visible evidence of overheating or damage that I can see.I have now cleaned the commutator and pushed the brushes up and down in the holders and all appears well.Before I reassemble,what is an acceptable length of the brushes please,they are 16mm at the moment ?

    Thanks iadom and Applianceman 2010,I will strip it down and check the brushes out.
