Thanks for the advice – I definitely won’t be trying anything then as I’m not a great engineer when it comes to dismantling things! 🙂

I have a feeling it may have been steam…. the wash was at 40C and it was on a normal dry cycle which I believe is at 90C. The white smoke seemed to disappear about 10cm away from the dispenser and my apartment certainly didn’t stink of smoke.

Maybe a combination of things has led me to believe it was smoke rather than anything else. I’ll keep checking the drain about once a month to see if anything appears assuming I have no more issues.
