Re: Whirlpool American Fridge Freezer broken down – help!

I have a 6 year-old Whirlpool ARC7610 frost-free fridge/freezer which has also suffered from exactly the same power supply capacitor failure as described in this thread.

In my case the capacitor was passing enough current to enable the control board to energise the compressor relay but not the defrost relay. Replacing the cheap-looking 0.68uF mains dropper capacitor (which looks identical to those pictured in one of the earlier posts) with a new X2 variant from bitsbox.co.uk has cured the problem. The old capacitor measured just 0.38uF. :eeek:

Unfortunately my F/F developed this fault a few months ago and, of course, I only noticed this thread last week. In the meantime we bought a replacement F/F out of desperation. I put the Whirlpool F/F in the garage in the hope that I could repair it at some later date. We’ll probably use it as a back-up now.

So it would appear that this problem is more wide-spread across the Whirlpool range than the thread title would suggest. Perhaps an FAQ entry is called for here?

Needless to say I’m pretty annoyed that failure of a £0.50 capacitor renders a 6 year-old F/F useless 😡 . I will, in future, try to avoid anything produced by Whirlpool and their sub-brands.

    Hi,

Thanks for the advice. Valve ordered from UK Whitegoods on Sunday evening, arrived today, and fitted in ten minutes. Washing machine now working perfectly again. 😀

    Cheers, Steve
