ParticipantRe: Hotpoint FF92 Fridge temp TEMPORARY FIX (SOLVED)? P1 – H
Temporary fix and fan is running both fridge and freezer gone into cooling mode and maintaining good temp.
This for those who need a temporary solution to save your food from spoiling and should be done by a qualified engineer where applicable, I am not an engineer but I am a mechanic, and as no one bothered to answer my questions I just went for it and its worked ❗
I assume the PCB is faulty as its not sending the signal/voltage to fan connector, the readings are very low and pulsing.
I don’t know of any trade so unwilling to help out the diy man and guarding information like its a state secret fearing there will be one less £90 job out there – Im joking, relax, don’t take it to heart, there are some nice helpful people on here :boops:
Anyway picture attached of what I did to get it running – might help someone, or might burn your house down lol
Original picture courtesy of a poster from 2009 – a engineer wired his ff92 directly.
As you switch it on keep “save” pressed and it run through a reboot/test cycle (worked for me)
Hope it helps, as that’s what these forums are all about……

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint FF92 @ 43 degrees? P1 – Help
Does anyone ever come here or dont peeps like to share here lol
Update;
Sorted the strange temperature issue, turned out to be the green thermistor, replaced with a spare yellow one and wired to fit.
Problem;
The evap fan wont kick in ie its not getting voltage, although it does come on for a few seconds.
I assume the PCB controls the evap fan – can someone show how theoretically someone can hard wire the evap fan to always on until I decide on a new cheap fridge (sick of constantly fixing this piece of junk), I suppose any power – + feed from the circuit will do the job?

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint FF92 @ 43 degrees? P1 – Help
Measured resistance on yellow plug @ ambient 18 deg, 3.18 and goes down as it gets warmer, that seems to be working.
This morning the freezer section was only half cold and the top shelf could be used as a “fridge”.
Is the PCB and sensor feedback responsible for this part also?

ParticipantIadom and others who have assisted – People like you make the internet forums what they are today.
I meant copyright in the original instructions and they can be re-written again.
Sorry didnt mean to offend chap I was just pointing out about logical processes like:
When a car comes in with a problem, the first thing to do is to scan it for codes with a machine similiar to the procedure mentioned before, its always the first place to start if you dont know what the fault is, just trying to make this section helpful to others mate. Why cant we have a sticky in here about the procedure? What if I wrote of the actions I carried out in my own words, can that be made into a sticky, you have to admit that people want to keep this info within the circles and to an extent I can understand but not everyone will have a go to repair things themselves and theres enough work out there..BTW – Diagnostics is part of my business and forms half of my income, I take from the internet but I like to give in return also.
Anyway sorry if I offended.

Ok credit to you then – Only trying to help others who dont have access to the trade section, I know there is a strong commercial aspect to this site which may have a direct conflict.
I help out in a lot of forums, I have a bit of knowledge on car diagnostics /car mechanics, satelittes and a few other bits – I always share my knowledge and help newbies out in the relevant forums I belong to, I happily give out all the diagnostic procedures and tips and tricks that only the trade would know about, anything useful – We ask the mod to make it into a sticky to help others, we never keep a monopoly on information or punt for business on the net as such. Not saying this about anybody here but I get the feeling that trade secrets, procedures are kept well guarded on this site instead of being shared, no copyright issues as pointed out if altered. I remember when my fridge broke down and I tried to get some pointers here and was led to believe that you need special equipment etc, in the end I fixed the PCB myself and no equipment was needed.
Rant over lol Anyway off to fit my bushes, hopefully should do the trick or I will come back and eat my humble and ask for help lol

The brushes are from a reputable supplier and over 160 pairs sold so the quality will be ok.
Yes ok, I finally get it Mr I have been in the job 40yrs and know every kitchen appliance inside out lol – I am a mere mortal here hehe
Yes if I need a motor I will get one, I can the bits via Hotpoint on Trade anyway so a nice discount can be had, but will try recon/repair motor – Hell its more fun that way.
Thanks again…

ParticipantRe: Please help – Hotpoint WMA34 washer stops mid cycle
Thanks – Ordered the Bushes for a a few quid (just in case it was something else didnt want OEM replacements)
Only 2 bolts holding the motor and 2 guide shafts – Didnt need any other bolts for the motor to be removed, just the two near the rotor shaft and then pryed it out with a flat large screwdriver and out it popped?
Your right – Motor could well be on its way out, if the brushes dont do it then will open it all up, I have opened up alternators and starter etc in the past and luckily managed to fix them and destroy a few as well lol

ParticipantRe: Please help – Hotpoint WMA34 washer stops mid cycle
Ok wont post if you say so but he did type it all out himself as per his interpretation, only wanting to help others.
The brushes are shot I reckon lol
I will grab some of the bay and post back so that it may aid others, after all thats the beauty of the net, grab and run is not good.
Thanks for the replys and thanks for pointing out the armatures.
Fingers crossed it will be the brushes hopefully….

ParticipantRe: Please help – Hotpoint WMA34 washer stops mid cycle
Yes I edited to the right model number DOH !
Bolts were dead easy, only 2 accessed from rear then pryed out with screwdriver on this model.
How do I tell if the brushes are worn? I suppose they are like brake pads hey and as they wear out they dont perform, there was some bad ticking come from that area, hope its not the bearings on the motor.
The extraction of the last logged fault code procedure was taken from another forum courtesy of ROCKS from Saint Lucia.
Shall I post it as it may help others doing a search? I dont have access to the trade section the info seems to be freely available on the net. Thanks

ParticipantRe: Please help – Hotpoint WMA34 washer stops mid cycle
Right, update:
Had a hunt around and actually found a diagnostics fault code procedure for these, I was thinking as well – Wish it had an OBD2 port lol
Got Tacho error – ON ON ON OFF – So handy…. I think the electronics are expecting the motor to spin and its not doing so on a wash cycle anyway(?)
On Spin its ok.
Also I can see strobe lights in the motor and its noisy(electrical activity noise) so I am hoping the bushes are gone.
I will get the motor out, bit of a mission trying to get at the front bolts..
I will post the full fault code procedure once I have sorted it so it helps others, or maybe even make it a sticky?

ParticipantRe: Please help – Hotpoint WMA58 washer stops mid cycle
Ok – Thanks for all the tips, I will have a go tomorow and check all you suggested.
Again thanks for taking the time to help out and post some tips, it is most appreciated.

ParticipantRe: Please help – Hotpoint WMA58 washer stops mid cycle
Thanks for the reply, much appreciated.
lol sorry meant brushes – If worn would it weaken the motor i:e not spin on full etc? Would that be the first thing to check then?
How would I bypass or test the “out of balance protection”?
Does it have a motor driver board? Pressure switch?
Aha so the old(er) ones are pretty well made then, well this is the first time its gone bad so I suppose thats proof there.

ParticipantRe: Hotpoint FF92 PCB – WHAT DOES NEEDS CONFIGURATION MEAN?
iadom wrote:Normally the new Hotpoint PCB’s that require ‘configuration’ as opposed to programming usually have an instruction sheet in the box.
I do say ‘usually’ with a caution though.
Thank you for that, thats helpful.
I actually re-soldered all the burn out contacts and bridged anything burnt on the board, was a longshot but Voila it actually worked even with my rubbish soldering skills, ok I was actually shocked.
Cheers for all the advice..
UPDATE: FOR THE BENEFIT OF OTHERS DOING A SEARCH FOR THIS IN THE FUTURE – I HAVE IT CONFIRMED THAT THIS PCB DOES NOT NEED ANY CONFIGURATION, IT IS PLUG AND PLAY OUT OF THE BOX….

PS. As a private individual how would you fair trying to repair/replace the electronics on your car, you won’t get much joy out of any motor manufacturer. 😉
Funny you say that, I do a lot of stuff on my cars via the OBD2 ports from diagnostics and programming the onboard units using VAGCOM to using a bog standard OBD2 device via it’s OBD2 port, for more complicated things I can plug it into my laptop via ELM or the relevant interface and use the plethora of software out there, I have even flashed modules on cars and all this as a private individual 😉 but we have have a good online community that helps each other out in these topics… Off course my rant was directed at the manufacturer.
And this is just a simple PCB (not so simple lol) Cant be that hard…
Got to try it, I know some people are a bit hessitant to give out trade secrets unlike motors or reverse engineering your Xbox for eg…BIG THANKS TO ALL THAT HELPED OUT !! ESPECIALLY THE NICE NORTHERNER WHO SENT ME A MANUAL, I AM GRATEFUL..

ParticipantThanks for trying to help chaps…
Still need confirmation of how to program this, I dont mind buying the bits if they are cheap enough or if something can be emulated by my laptop.
10 yr old fridge freezer (granted its old) needs special equipment to program sounds like a monopoly to me, Hotpoint are as bad as Apple. If thats the case I wont ever buy Hotpoint again. We got a cheapy freezer and thats been running strong for 13 years without a single hitch and this Hotpoint – I have since replaced, fan, thermister, bulb and a motor.
I dont have a problem paying for someone to come and do the job but I should be able to do it myself without the need for specialist equipment which is really non essential unless your trying to ringfence your products and squeeze money out of people.
Makes me mad lol Sorry for the rant 😀
