I managed to remove the end attached to the matrix, but couldn’t even see the other end of the hose, never mind undo it, so I rodded it in place with my daughter’s trumpet cleaner (a yard of springy metal with a brush on the end). Loads of black muck came out into the main sump area of the machine. I cleaned that up, then ran the machine on a wash cycle – the lower reservoir is still left with some water after the 1st and 2nd fill (I guess that’s “working as designed”), but on the 3rd fill the water now drains out as fast as it comes in, so no danger of flooding!
