Re: AEG Lavamat W1230 slow spin speed

Hi, I think I’ll buy a second hand timer and fit it myself, see if that fixes the problem. If not I can just re-sell the timer. The washing machine only cost £25 (and was an absolute bargain, because it’s in great condition, and much better build quality than my old Hotpoint, that cost me 99p off Ebay!).

Hi spanishwhite, I’ve taken the machine apart and had a good look inside. I cleaned out the plastic box up by the waste tube, by putting some brass screws inside and shaking it, I’ve taken off the hose thingy that comes out of the bottom of the drum, and completely cleaned it, I’ve removed and blown through both of the black hoses that go from near the aforementioned hose thingy into the two pressure sensors, and put it all back together, but it still didn’t help.
But I’ve now obtained an English manual online, and I am pretty sure the timer is faulty. When the timer reaches the ‘Schleudern’ (spin) section on the main wash, it doesn’t spin, it empties the drum, then refills it, then empties it again, and instead of stopping, it immediately (and I mean immediately) goes onto the next program and starts filling with water again!
There is a second ‘Schleudern’ (spin) section on the next program, and if I turn it to that, it actually works, spins at about 300 RPM for 30 seconds, then 600 RPM for 30 seconds, and then at 1200 RPM for 60 seconds, and then I have to be quick to turn it off, or it immediately starts filling the drum with water again, as it’s moved onto the next program (it should stop according to the dial.)

Here is the manual if it helps explain better:

Is there any way I can check the timer to see if I can fix it? I know how to look for cold joints, but is it possible to clean the contacts or something? I can’t find anything online which explains washing machine timers, surprisingly. (At least, not that explains them well, with pictures, and more than a few sentences.)
