Thanks for the replies.

I’ve given the door filter and consenser (presumably that’s the brick-shaped radiator made of aluminium sheeting that fills up with fluff) a good clean and emptied the water tank, but no difference. No apparent pattern to whether it heats up or not.

I’ll unplug it and check the heater and thermostat connections looking for a loose one. May be lucky. I don’t think it’s worth buying parts unless fairly sure they’d fix it, so if that doesn’t fix it I’m probably off shopping 🙁
