Huge thanks you to everybody helping with this, I have found a sticker with a number which seems to be a nationwide service company, I have phoned them and they are looking at ~£140 to come and repair whatever the fault is and give the machine a 12month warranty. This seems expensive but not knowing whats wrong its cheaper than a new unit.
Any views on this type of agreement?

Its not looking good – I have checked for service engineers and it appears there are none in my area (pe19).
I have checked things again this morning and things have changed slightly. Now when I turn the unit on, the power light comes on but the flashing has now stopped, in fact the service type lights are not illuminating at all, even if I press the wash select program button.
If I shut the door, nothing. To my very untrained eye, it looks like a pcb issue? 🙁
