Reference the explanation below, I think I have now identified the danaged part as a thermostat, whether there is another unbderlying problem only time will tell. I’ve asked UK Whitegoods to identify the correct part for me to purchase.
If there is still a problem I’ll no doubt post again.

Is there way to post a photo on this forum? I’ve taken the lid and back off the oven and have fund what I think is the fault. If I can post a picture with a description of where the part is someone might tell me what it is.
The part has plenty of burn marks on it and a small hole that look like has blown through the base of it, no doubt where the power surge did it’s damage.
It looks like it could be an easy fix if I could just find out what the damaged item is called. It’s a small cylindrical unit (about the same size and dimension as a stack of 10 pennys) with a brown wire leading to the clock/timer unit. There was another brown wire from the mains input going to the unit as well, but this looks like it has burnt off the unit because it wasn’t actually connected and is somewhat damaged.
If anyone has any ideas they can call me

Thanks Don
As long as I’m in the cooking appliance section. After you first replied it looked like I was in the general appliance section.
If I’m not in the best section can you move it for me, or explain how I can do it.
Many thank

Don
I’m new to the forum and post it in the general appliance forum before realising that it would be better in the cooking appliance forum.
If you are going to delete one of the post you could have asked which I’d perferred to have kept.
