    Fault confirmed and fixed…it was the selector switch. One of the two contacts had welded closed. Engineer thought it might be thermostat and that was replaced too, maybe unecessarily. Cost £70.

    All due to the main oven element blowing…total cost of event $93.50. Expensive element!!!

    Hi,
    Thanks for the suggested cause of the problem. I did get an engineer in and he needs to confirm with the circuit diags, but he’s suggesting either the selector switch or thermostat is at fault.

    Apparently this type of problem is very common after an element failure. The suggestion was that arcing caused by the element as it fails can cause arcing in the selector switch which welds some of the terminals together.

    I’ll advise the final outcome when known.
