    Hi, Thanks for continuing this thread. I apologise for not updating the solution to the problem before now. In my original post I linked to pictures of the Miele filter and also an example of what I considered a good filter from my previous Zanussi machine. Luckily I kept an old cutlery basket and used this to fashion an insert for the top of the Miele filter (Zanussi style). This solved the problem for me and it hasn’t occurred since. Bits and pieces get caught at the top of the filter and I have to remove these when cleaning. I was interested to hear about the Miele tablets dissolving aluminium parts, because this was clearly happening to me. The machine came from the Miele outlet and I was able to obtain a large amount of the Miele tablets when I purchased it. I couldn’t work out what was happening with the knife rivets. Now I’m on whatever they have in CostCo and I don’t recall losing any more rivets.

    Thanks for the quick response, this is good to know.

    I’ve even dropped small items down the centre of the filter just to show they can end up in the pump. Maybe if you ignore the noise for long enough they eventually go out the drain pipe.
