    Thank you Dave
    Socket test was ok.
Thankfully Siemens have agreed to take the parts back and offer a refund so no money lost. But i doubt they’ll do it again and I think the machine is too old to risk £120 on main module as any other part could fail at any time so we’ll will probably scrap it. Thanks again for your help.

    Thank you electrofix, Dave.
Can i ask how you know it’s the programmed module type rather than the unprogrammed one ? Siemens site shows both are available for this model but it doesn’t say how to know which one ! And the number printed on it doesn’t correspond with either part nr.
    1. No i haven’t checked the socket. As power is there i assumed it was ok and it was never a problem before. But i could check it. Thanks.
    2. Yes the mains lead is firmly in the main module. I’ve even had the module out to make sure i could change it if needed and I put it back firmly until it ‘clicked’.

So if i do a socket test and the machine still has the fault do you think it’s the main power module causing the problem ? the one the power lead attaches to and has all the wiring going off it via clips. Or could it be anything else ?
It’s actually my parents machine and i’m not sure they will want to spend £140 on a 12 yr old machine, especially having just bought the control module and an on/off switch.
    Thanks again for your help.
