Re: Zanussi ZWF16581W sticks with 1 min to go

When my machine was new I was able to simply press the start button twice to wash a second load on the same setting; once to reset and again to actually start it. This started to flash red ages (months) before the door lock began sticking. I have to confess that while it still works I have yet to replace the faulty component. I know it’s wrong but I turn the machine off with the selector switch and give the door catch a sharp tap and the door releases. It needs the 10-2 minutes but as it used to be the alert audio signal that told me it was finished it is normally much later when I remember so it just opens straight away.

The red light still flashes if I try to restart without first turning the selector switch. I confess to being disappointed in what was purchased as a Which Best Buy selection. I hope this helps a bit

OK. Found the instructions on the “Help and Support” part of this site. Read through and seems do-able. Unscrewed the access plate, removed the retention band on the door seal and checked out the door interlock (wiped the contacts – no sign of deterioration or burning). Checked out the part in the “Store” part of this site and then compared with two other sites. Rang local spares places and none had it in stock. Ordered from here (cheaper by a tenner).

Reassembled the door lock and husband re-sealed the door (as I was going out). Now my interim measure of turn off the dial-set and tap the door catch firmly to release the door is working until I receive the part and fit it. I’m happy.

Thanks for the supplementary info. I’m sure you’re right as it’s just happened again. I switched it off, left it an hour, tried again and it was still stuck, then I banged the door catch firmly and it released.

I’m off to check if I can fit this myself (I already know that I can’t reverse the door without using an electric device as it’s too tight) and I’ve disconnected and pulled out the machine and I can’t see what to unscrew to get in there…

I ran a really hot cycle with a powder detergent and no laundry last night in case the problem is caused by a build up of low temperature washes and laundry gloop. It finished normally so I will see how it goes this week to see if that did the trick. This was suggested elsewhere in the forum as a precautionary maintenance cycle
