bought the solenoid and the duct door now works a treat. HOWEVER was trying to see if the ice tray would fill and empty as its been switched off for nearly 2 years now. nothing was happening. started to unscrew everything inside but couldn’t remove the black retaining nut on the mechanism that rotates the ice dispenser and crusher. whilst it was off and hanging there i saw a button that said test and thought why not. this made the ice tray turn and then the flood off water went every where as it tried to refill the tray. at this point i realised maybe i should have put it all back together before pressing the test button.
I do have one more question for you experts, when the tray starts to turn, it seems to catch on the plastic shrouding then after about 10 degrees of turn starts to turn completely the other way but one end turns more than the other resulting in the tray twisting torsionally across its length. i dont ever remember hearing the cracking noise as it operated so wasnt sure if its somehow started to catch even though the ice production was perfectly fine before the duct door failed.
does the fact that 1 end twists more than the other happen on purpose so the ice is broken free and can drop out?
should it catch the shroud at all?cant believe that as one problem is resolved it seems like another has arisen. any help appreciated.
oh, and the fridge bulb has blown. so will check for that also on here.

Thanks for your help. Thought the plunger seemed jammed, it would need a pretty powerful magnetic field to move it as I could only manage it with pliers.
Could there be a fault with the pcb that caused it to swell? Worried about replacing the solenoid and it failing straight away. Tried to measure the voltage across the spade connectors as I activated the ice and voltage jumped around between positive and negative. Thought I’d see a steady voltage when activated then zero when released?sweeneyuk

Am I right in thinking the shaft should operate freely back and forth? Want to be sure before I spend more as if this don’t solve it then I’ll have to pay an engineer or leave it. It’s just bugged me that it broke as soon as the warranty ran out and we bought it from comet.

thanks for advice. it makes ice and tries to dispense it but duct door is not opening. when i saw the plastic lug had snapped off where it engages this solenoid i thought it would just be that and so relplaced it. water and everything else is fine. tried to operate with it all wired up so i could watch if the solenoid was working but the shaft doesnt move. i thought that the shaft would need to move freeley inside the solenoid for magnetic field to draw back the shaft and for the duct door spring to pull shaft back out as it closed and sealed the freezer again. i cant believe this solenoid would allow it as i need to use pliers to move it in and out.
in order to test the solenoid should i measure the resistance across its terminals?
thanks again for help.ive also tried to locate this solenoid on your parts section, sent an email as i couldnt see it there.

this the offending item, the silver is very stiff inside the actuator and can only presume that it should release easy or the duct door will not shut.

hello kwatt, hope you see this post. the replacement duct door came and was the correct part, however, its still not working. as far as i can tell the actuator or solenoid that operates the door doesn’t work. its like an electromagnet that pulls a shaft back when activated or at least thats what it looks like. this shaft is not moving at all when switched on and so not opening the door.
Do you have any suggestions on where to get the replacement or to check if its def this part and not the supply to it.
any help appreciated. thanks in advance.sweeneyuk

worked it out and discovered the duct cap assembly has broken off where it attaches to the solenoid to open it. now just need the replacement part.
