ParticipantRe: SMEG DW1710E – continous cycle
It was the thermostat.
Thanks for the advice.

Been away for a sew days and the machine hasn’t repaired itself – damn!
Tested the heater and it seems fine. Tried running a program and it completed the cycle, I opened it half way through and water cold so definitely not heating up.
What to try next? I assuming there must be something which controls the temperature but don’t know where to find it.

Funny you should mention heat, other symptoms include; not washing the dishes properly and leaving streaks over everything, oddly the tablet dispenser opens but the tablet remains partly disintegrated inside – could this be due to a lack of heat?
It did eventually stop last night – not sure how long it went on for, noticed that the five indicator lights where illuminated like this:
X X O O X
X = Illuminated
O = offI had a look for error codes but couldn’t find any specifically for this machine.
So if it is a lack of heat what can I do next?

I’m reasonably sure that the new printed circuit board is ok but am still having problems with the spin cycle. The machine will now go through the wash cycle without any problem but when it comes to the spin cycle – or even if it is moved onto a spin cycle it only spins for a very short time – it does a lot of cycling slowly clockwise/anticlockwise. Anyone got any ideas what the problem may be.

Changed printed circuit board and the washer sprang back into life. Missus happy me happy cat happy all is well with the world…until an hour later when we discover the cycle finished and the drum 1/3 full of soapy water!!
The unit was purchased via the internet from QER who I now realise recondition units rather than supply new ones – nothing wrong with that provided the units work – I guess I should suspect the unit as faulty but it seems to me like it ought to be a program error but then I don’t understand the relation ship between the two units.
My question is: is it possible that the original damaged circuit board somehow damaged the programmer too?

Thanks for the information. I had another look at the interlock – put it back on and switched on the power – the door wouldn’t open – waited a few minutes and then it did so I assume that part ot the unit is working – nothing else worked.
I tried a test across what should be the switch in this case the live and common and then pushed the metal plate in – emulating what the door latch would do – I should get a circuit? I tried this and didn’t. Does this mean that the switch has just broken down or is there some fault in my reasoning?
Assuming the interlock to be fine and my reasoning all to pot, is there any simple way I can test the circuit board?

See photo – full frontal – not much of a ‘looker’ I’m afraid.
I carried out the tests on the interlock and yes I had a high Kohms reading across two of the terminals and a zero on what I assume must be the switch. So I guess that means the unit is ok. Any idea what I might try next?

Ok. I’ve done a bit of checking and can find nothing visually wrong with the m/c. Thought I might start with the door switch – I’ve removed the door switch (power off plug removed) which is a Metaflex Tip ZV – 445. Can someone tell me how I go about testing it? I have a electronic meter handy but am not sure exactly wat I should be looking for.

Thanks for that.
Does this mean that all Baumatic’s are clones? If so does anyone know how I go about identifying the original maker?

ParticipantThanks Martin.

ParticipantThanks Dave, I’ve checked out the white goods shop and spotted a universal 7uf capacitor. Mine is rated as 7.5uf would it make much differnce to use a 7uf instead?

Thanks to Penguin45 and Dave for their kind advice, machine now working following discovery of a faulty cable in the loom between the door and the main unit. Still have to replace the supressor but have that on order. Wife happy, dishes happy – I’m off down the pub – well tomorrow anyway!
Great site. Keep up the good work.

Since you mention it are there any simple tests I can carry out to establish if it is the digi-board that’s at fault?
tallpaul
ParticipantI don’t like to ask but if the board has gone west what’s it likely to cost?
tallpaul
ParticipantThanks Penquin45.
I quess that explains why we’ve had to move the radio to the other side of the room in the last couple of weeks!
But still doesn’t explain why the unit wont function at present. How common is it for the cables to ‘go’ between the door controls and the main unit – I’m talking about the ones that have to be continually bent from 180 to 90 degrees?
